Single use discounts

For membership organisations (and perhaps others) it would be useful to be able to issue a 'user based' discount code which once used on any event could not be applied to a second booking. A single discount code, as at present, can be shared between members and non-members of an organisation and result in lost earnings. Overcoming this currently requires manual cross-checks. Having two booking rates for one event would also require checks.

The proposal would work as follows:
1) Organisation sets up one or more lists of discount codes (hopefully one that could be imported as a CSV file as it might be as simple as a set of membership IDs)
2) When creating a new event a drop-down selector would display the name of any lists that have been created. One might be applied to the event OR a single code might be entered as at present.
3) When making a booking if a user enters a discount code this is identified as either 'generic' (applies discount multiple times to the event) or 'lookup' (a list was chosen when the event was created so the code entered is cross-checked) - See attached flow-chart.

Thanks for the detailed suggestion. I think that it sounds like a good plan and certainly something to put on the list of proposed new features. The flow chart is a nice touch too.

Do you have any specific need for this in the short-term? Obviously new features have to be prioritised and this at the moment would classify as a 'nice to have'. The bulk emailing functionality (amongst other things) will have to take priority.

I have a client who I hope will subscribe and I think in the medium term this will be an important feature for them as they want to offer members discounts. Short term I daresay they will accept that they will have the additional work of reconciling discount codes against member names to make sure that no non-members are using the codes.

If once you have considered it you believe you will implement something like this in the next few months then I am sure this will be a strong 'selliing point', so any news in this direction would be helpful (especially so if it were soon).

ok - I will commit to adding the feature as I think it would be useful to others too. Can you let me know if the client decides to go with bookwhen so I can ensure that it gets the deserved priority. Thanks.

Did anything along the lines suggested above get implemented?

Hi Ian, Thanks for getting back to me about this. Unfortunately nothing has been done about it yet. However I do think that it's definitely a fine suggestion. The problem is with time and costs of implementing new features. Another round of feature development is due soon so I'll see if it can be squeezed in then. No promises though as there's a lot on the list. Hope that's ok.

This is something I would really like to see implemented as well. :) I would like to offer discount vouchers or "1 Free Class" vouchers to select clients, who'd be able to redeem it whenever they wanted to book their next class, and after the booking the discount code would become inactive. The only way I can do this now is to have them call me or email me and (unfortunately) not through bookwhen.

Sorry if this question sounds stupid, but how do I set up the discount code to be used only once?
